How To Deal With Pregnancy Pain

Posted on

When you're pregnant your body will go through several different changes. These changes happen so that your body will perfectly support the new life that is growing inside you. However, one of the things that go along with pregnancy is pain. Several different types of pain can occur during pregnancy. Here's a look at what you need to know.

Common Pregnancy Pains

One of the most common pains that many pregnant women experience is pelvic girdle pain. Pelvic girdle pain may become intensified as your baby begins to grow. This type of pain is very common in the second trimester of pregnancy.

Back pain is also one of the more common pains that you may experience during pregnancy. The back pain is usually centered around the lower back although it can occur in your upper back. This type of pain is also very prevalent in the second trimester of pregnancy as your baby grows.

You may also experience round ligament pain as your pregnancy progresses. Round ligament pain may cause pain in your groin or in the lower half of your belly.

Pain Relief with Heat

When you're having pregnancy pains, heat and cold are your best friends. You can use a cold pack to help relieve pain in your back or other areas that may be in pain.

You can also use heat to help alleviate your pains. A hot water bottle can be an effective way of relieving pain. However, you do have the option of using heating pads as well to assist you with relieving the pain. When you're using heat especially on your belly you should not apply the heat to your belly for too long as this may affect your baby.

Ask your obstetrician how to appropriately use heat for pain relief if you are unsure.

Exercise and Pregnancy Pain

Pain in pregnancy can be minimized by exercise. Although as your pregnancy progresses it may be more difficult to do certain forms of exercise, there are still many exercises that you can do at different stages of your pregnancy. Every pregnancy is different; this means that you will need to ask your obstetrician which ones are right for you. If the pain gets too intense you may need to visit a physical therapist to get specific exercises and stretches for your aches and pains.

While aches and pains during pregnancy are normal there are many things you can do to relieve your pain and stay as comfortable as possible while pregnant.
